My sisters Grace and Hope, who are twins, raise rabbits as a hobby. They would like to share all they know about rabbits with y’all!!

About rabbits
Rabbits are small mammals in the Leporidae family. There are estimated 14 million rabbits domesticated worldwide, with 305 breeds of rabbits, the Flemish Giant is the biggest (about 13lbs), and the Netherlands dwarf is the smallest (weighing 1.1-2.5lbs). Rabbits are raised for meat, pets, and even fur! (Angora rabbits normally). Rabbits are easy going, low maintenance mammals that are easy to raise.
Good to know about rabbits…
- Male rabbits are called bucks, female rabbits are called does, and baby rabbits are called kits.
- Bunnies mean dwarf or small rabbits.
- Don’t put bucks with each other, because they can kill one other.
- When you are breeding rabbits, make sure you put the doe into the bucks pen. If you put the buck into the female pen she will get mad because they are territorial.
- Kindle is when the doe is having her babies.
- Make sure your doe has a nesting box for when she kindles.
- Don’t wean all the kits at the same time because you want the doe to “dry up” gradually.
- Don’t feed greens to young rabbits, it will give them diarrhea and could kill them.
- Rabbits gestation period is 25-30 days, depending on the breed of rabbit.
