Hibiscus is one of my favorite teas, the astringent tang in your tongue, the floral notes hittin’ the back of your throat, the little “ahh” you get after it’s sipped….
Why hibiscus?

Hibiscus has high antioxidants Compounds known as anthocyanins and quercetin glucoside, thats why it has such a beautiful color! It’s also the reason it has so many benefits, antioxidants plays a big role in keeping us healthy. Antioxidants are antibacterial, antimicrobial, and fight off free radicals found in our bodies, making hibiscus a great detoxifying beverage. Mint, especially peppermint or spearmint, also kills bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath, this is why mint it common as gum flavoring. I used the apple mint in this drink since it’s takin’ over one of the garden beds…here’s some more mint benefits to think about:

So, ready to start steeping and make this tea? This makes 1/2 gallon mason jar full of detox tea. Here’s what ya need….
- 1 tablespoon hibiscus tea (plain)
- 1 teaspoon dried dandelion leaf
- 1 teaspoon dried dandelion root
- 2 teaspoons dried rose hips
- 1/2 teaspoon powered ginger
- 2 sprigs fresh mint (I used apple mint)
- 1 orange
The how to…
- Boil at least 16oz of water. Place all the ingredients beside the orange in a mesh tea strainer and steep in boiling water for at least ten minutes.
- Once cooled add to a large mason jar and fill the rest with cold water and ice. Serve and enjoy!!
