On the Road again: Rapid city {eat•drink•shop}

Today is beautiful day as we travel through South Dakota, gotta cup of coffee in my hand watching the gorgeous sunrise as it’s a freezing 0°F outside on our way to sunny Florida. We left yesterday morning in our RV and stayed the night in Rapid City. Leaving at 4:00am in the morning, dad booked it fourteen hours and we even went through a time zone making it one hour later. Well anyway, about rapid city…

Rapid city is a nice conservative town very well known for Mount Rushmore, but one has to eat and drink and visit farm stores!!! Theirs not much options there, so here’s a list of places we like….

What to eat…

Ooofffft, this ones a hard one… there’s not much great places in Rapid city (at least that we’ve tried) so we usually go for this one:

1}. Culver’s.

I know what your thinking, “wait this foodie family that loves to eat good organic food likes a fast food chain?” Well, yes, this one we do:). Maybe you’ve eaten there, maybe you haven’t, but their food is really good for being a fast food place, and I’m picky when it comes to this sort of food!! But trust me, if you want to splurge a little, Rapid city is the city to do it in, and Culver’s is the place to do it at. And anyway, there family/farmer owned and supported.

What to eat at Culver’s:

I get there single cheese butter burger plain and dry, nothing but meat cheese and bun. Everyone says the doubles are better, but what I like to get the cheese curds with it and smush them in my burger, yum!!! and don’t forget the ice cream!! I like the vanilla concrete with cookie dough bits (I know I know, I sound like a little kid!) But they do also have different flavors of the day!

  • ButterBurger with cheese
  • Cheese curds
  • Custard

2}. Others that might be worth a shot:

We tried a Mexican restaurant there one time but it was not very good and the customer service was rude. Here are some that we’ve never tried and that light be good:

  • Tally’s silver spoon for fancier dining.
  • Sickies garage for burgers and character.
  • Piesano’s Pacchia for pizza and subs.
  • Or there’s always Texas Roadhouse too:) witch obviously we’ve been there before.

What to drink…

Coffee…. drink coffee… the Midwest is probably the hardest place to find some good coffee guys, and if your a coffee fanatic like us, you probably already know that. Good news is, that there’s a really good coffee place in Rapid City! Potter-approved:).

1}. Pure bean.

This place is really good, there coffee is so precise and you have to appreciate when coffee shops use real cream on the counter.

  • I get just straight coffee and cream
  • Their lattes are alway good

2}. Harriet & Oak.

Just down Main Street from Pure Bean, Harriet & Oak have a fun style with a VW van inside the building. Only been there once since pure bean is our first choice, but tried them out one time since they were open before pure bean and their great also. While your there go check out kicks and giggles next door.

Where to shop….

Now is Potters have probably visited like 90% of the farm stores around America (it’s kinda out thing). So we know the good ones vs the bad ones, here is our favorite farm store and some other fun little goodie stores to check out while your here in Rapid city.

1}. Rural America.

Fun place with lots of clothes, some boot options, fun equipment and farm needs. Great place to bring kids to run around and check out everything.

2}. Open suitcase.

This ones right next to pure bean and it’s really cool because there a quint little store that helps kids in poverty around the world. Their jewelry is fun!! Update: open suitcase sadly closed.

3}. Kicks & giggles.

Right next to Harriet & oak, kicks & giggles is an adorable baby clothing shop that has fun unique baby clothes. A little pricy but definitely worth checking out!!

And of course, don’t forget to visit Mount. Rushmore!!

Bonus: don’t forget to eat the ice cream at mt. Rushmore…. spot on!

I hope this post helps you enjoy your trip to Rapid city!!
