About potter’s table and why

Howdy! Welcome to the potters table!

I’m Ryelee, and we are the Potters! I am the 4th oldest an awesome family of 13, (yes we’re all full siblings from the same mom and dad and no, we don’t drive around in a bus. and yes, we are homeschooled). I have a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, 5 nieces, and 3 nephews.

We have lived on a farm all of our lives, raising sheep and other livestock. We’ve travelled all around America but in 2014 planted our roots in North Idaho, on 124 acres of prairie. Our family loves to cook (and eat), raise livestock (and kids), design (everything from a barn to our house), travel (at least every cold season), learn (like the gettin’ your hands in the dirt kinda learnin’), create (this we do a lot, and if we fail it’s just life lessons), and live a truly happy and thankful life!

How it got started with cooking and baking…

My dad and mom are both awesome cooks, but it wasn’t always like that. They used to just eat that nasty “boxed stuff” or dinner from a can… then after they got married they figured out that eating better would be a good thing! (Thanks mom and dad!) They started cooking real food and got tips from great chefs and influencers, and their love for good food began! If you ever come to our table ask for dad’s tikka masala or mom’s creamy basil chicken stuffed shells.

I’ve always loved to cook, when I was six years old I would make eggs every morning, now if anyone would eat it or not… that’s a different story… I would also add other things like pesto or spinach (yum). When Sunday mornin’ came around I was always pancake makin’ with Daddy, and when the evening came we would create our Sundae Sunday’s!

We moved to Coeur d’Alene when I was 11, and since we weren’t living on a farm we would get bored… so one day I asked my dad “Why don’t we ever make our own bread?” He said “’Cause we were never good at it!” So I said, “Can I try?” Dad said yes, and bought me yeast because we didn’t have any. I tried making easy baguettes… the results? Yum.. just delicious! I found my passion in baking. But I also love to cook! When we lived in town we would also walk to the farmers market and get some veggies and other yummy, healthy foods. I would always be experimenting, from farmers market fried rice, to sautés, to ginger snaps.

I have always loved to take pictures, it started from a cheap camera my sisters and I shared, to using moms “iPhone 3” when I was like 10 thinking they were the coolest pictures ever when really they were so bad quality you could hardly see them (anyone else been there;)?)… to shooting with a Canon rebel T6, and now I use the Canon R5 which is amazing. I love it:).

Now I both cook and bake a lot, and experiment all the time. I love to spend time in the kitchen and take lots of pictures. 🙂 I don’t usually measure things, I just dump a lot of spices into what I’m cooking (using basil and garlic a whole lot). However I have learned to measure things more so that I can share recipes with y’all. I like to create things out of the ordinary, (although traditional is good), being creative in the kitchen is so much fun!! I hope y’all have a great cooking and baking experience with us at thepotterstable!

Why the potters table?

The Potter’s table is kinda a play on words, off of Isaiah 64:8, saying that the Lord is our potter, and we should come to his table. And of course because we are the Potter’s and the table is where all the delicious food comes to, the word “the potters table” came to my head:).

You, Lord, are our Father.

We are the clay, you are the potter;

we are all the work of your hand.

Isaiah 64:8

Thanks y’all and I hope you enjoy all the delicious recipes you will bring to your own table! ~Ryelee Potter
